Arado Farms is a certified organic family farm located in Skagit Valley, WA, established in 2015 at Viva Farms. We specialize in mixed berries and vegetables.

Arado Farms is owned and operated by husband and wife team Mauricio Soto and Senaida Vela, along with their son, Michael. Mauricio is originally from Nayarit, Mexico and Senaida is from Jalisco, Mexico.

We have been working in agriculture our whole lives and attribute our passion for the work to the values instilled in us by our parents. We believe in community involvement, working hard for the things you want in life, and doing what you love.

Why Arado Farms?

​

The “arado” or plow is the most modern tool that Mauricio used in Nayarit to turn up the earth. As the story goes, this plow was pulled by two mules, Cantaro and Venturon. While the use of the traditional plow was discontinued in the U.S. by 1983, it is still used in many countries. We are proud to have been able to experience this tool. We both come from farming families who grew products such as coffee and bananas. When we migrated to the U.S., we began to work in the production of different crops, including pears and apples. While different, these products come from the same agricultural land. We believe that when one work willfully on whatever they are doing, one will enjoy a sense of freedom and fulfillment and the outcome will be successful. This is true of agriculture, as with other industries.

Arado Farms se pertenece y se opera de un equipo de esposo y esposa Mauricio Soto y Senaida Vela, además de su hijo, Michael. Mauricio es originalmente de Nayarit, Mexico y Senaida es de Jalisco, Mexico. Se instalaron en el Skagit Valley en el año 2000.

¿Por qué Arado Farms? 

​

El arado es la herramienta más moderna que yo pude usar en mi tierra natal, Nayarit, para mover la tierra.  Esta herramienta era jalada por dos Machos: uno llamado el Cantaro y el otro llamado el Venturon. Por el año de 1983, aunque en EUA dejó de usarse hace muchos años, en muchos países se sigue usando. Yo me siento orgulloso de haber tenido esa experiencia. Aunque venimos de familias campesinas donde crecen productos como el café y el plátano, cuando inmigramos a este país venimos a trabajar como campesinos labradores en diferentes cultivos como las peras o manzanas. Aunque distintos, estos productos son del mismo terreno que te conecta con la agricultura. Creamos que cuando uno trabajo con intención en sus proyectos, uno distrutará de un sentimiento de libertad y satisfacción y tendrá exito. Eso es verdad para la agricultura tanto como en otras industrias.

Hemos trabajado en la agricultura toda la vida. La pasión por el trabajo crece de los valores inculcados por nuestros padres. Creemos en el involucramiento comunitario, en trabajar por lo que queremos y en lo que amamos.
